The Keyboard A Singers Best Friend: Pitch Practice Part 1

In this new series we will discuss the importance of a singer having an electronic keyboard and the many things it can do to make you a better singer.

As a producer, I am often asked what a singer can do to get better. If there was one suggestion I can make it is the purchase of a portable keyboard that will become your new best friend. If you are a singer with known pitch problems, one of the best ways to practice is to sing along with notes on a keyboard. This can be anything from scales, to singing along with your own songs melodies. This will help your ear build a stronger sense of where a note falls and how it sounds when it clashes. It is important to do this on a electronic keyboard as opposed to a guitar or acoustic piano since your ear can quickly get used to intonation flaws in these instruments. This simple technique can be a life altering practice method for a singer.
