While this is obvious information to many of us, I have seen it far too often lately to not say something. We have been discussing tactics to keep your Twitter feed clear of clutter, and it seems that some people don’t get it. If you want to really gain followers on Twitter, make it an enjoyable experience for all of your fans. As Twitter takes over the spam capital of the Internet crown from MySpace, it seems some people have to be reminded that you can annoy the fans you do have by trying to get new ones on Twitter. Many groups choose to follow potential fans and tweet at them asking for a follow back, sometimes they will even do this twice.
If you do not put an @ as the very first character of your tweet this will go out to all of your fans. Announcing where you are playing each day when you are on tour for two months is another one that can be quite annoying for those fans who don’t live where you live. Be aware of how annoying you may be to your fans on your social networks. I hate to sound like a cranky old man, but the more enjoyable you make your Twitter feed, the more followers you will have. Be considerate.
