I don’t know about you, but I love to listen to music while I work! I get really inspired by listening to other records in the dull moments of a record. When I am doing menial tasks like aligning triggers, checking fades, setting up mix templates, etc. I take the time to listen to some music, that may give me a great idea for the song I am working on. So how do you do this without having to hit Play/Stop on iTunes a million times, slowing down your workflow? First off, follow my previous Pro Tools Tip Of The Day, and download the essential Massey Tools FOR FREE! The next thing we want to do is make a new Aux Input. Insert Massey’s TalkBack plug-in on to this insert. Next, route your iTunes/playback device to an open input (note: if using iTunes route your computers line output to the desired input). If you have an HD system route this to any open input. If you have a DIGI 002/003 you are in luck! Route your iTunes/playback device to the ALT SRC L/R input, then simply click the button that says “ALT SRC to 7-8″. Next we set the input of our Aux track to the input we plugged our playback device into. Hit play on your iTunes/playback device. Whenever you hit the play button in Pro Tools the audio from your iTunes/playback device will be muted and when stop is pushed you will have audio from your playback device again!
