Before, we told you that becoming a partner with YouTube can earn your band extra money. Well, we may need to eat our words; Gizmodo is reporting that, “Never Gonna Give You Up” songwriter Pete Waterman, was paid an insulting $16 for the 150 Million times this song was play on YouTube in 2008. For those of you over 30 years of age, the video recieved all these plays from an internet prank known as “Rickrolling”, where you are told a link is one thing and in reality it is a link to the YouTube clip of Astley’s cheesey video. Giz, doesn’t seem to have all the details on whether Rick Astley and co. was involved in the partner program, whether this is the usual retarded Major Label dividend splitting BS or just the highway robbery that goes on with plays on YouTube these days. Either way it is very wrong. If your video is seeing serious plays on YouTube making Google rich, make sure you have contacted them about getting your fair share!
