In our newest interview series, Interview With A Blogger, Musformation attempts to get in the minds of music bloggers to find out what makes them tick, how they look at music and how artists and bloggers can better communicate.
The rise in the influence of music blogs has also raised an international issue. It's no longer enough to simply submit and pay attention to local or regional blogs - it's also important to stay at pace with blogs from all over the world. One blog that is geographically distant but often directly on the mark is Auckland, New Zealand's Nerdy Frames. Combining the styles of the now defunct Grand Royal and the tragically hip Vice Magazine, Nerdy Frames covers acts large and small with interviews, MP3 posts and occasionally, the best in internet gossip and memes. We recently sat down with Jasper Gape to get the dirt on music, blogging and things in Auckland.
If you are not the first search result when someone Google's your name you know how defeating it can be. Never mind the depression you experience, this also decreases the likelihood that you will have your music discovered by new fans. One way to start helping your SEO improve and win the war to get to the top of the Google search results, is to never type in your myspace/website's URL and instead Google it every time and then click on the link. Remembering to do this every time you are in a new location on a new computer can greatly help you climb the Google search charts.

Lately, Todd's band Sensual Harassment has been getting blogged about everywhere from Pitchfork to Big Stereo. One of the subtle secrets to their success (aside from writing awesome songs) is they always use an awesome image when they release each song. Blogs love featuring this image in big sizes and Flavorpill even copped the image and used it for their latest mixtape. By doing this the band increases the image branding associated with them adding familiarity to the group's image. Watch and learn.
The Guardian has up a great article where they explain the cast and crew of a touring group. Important knowledge for anyone who may be looking to do a large scale tour in the future.
It's always a sad day, you go and look at your record sales and what were once steady online sales, they have now turned to a stalled asset. Obviously, the first thing to do is get ready to start recording a new record if you haven't already, but the next consideration you should make is how to still have your old record give you some extra mileage. If people are no longer buying your old record you need to consider that it may have lost it's value, The logical thing to do is to then set it free. Instead of letting all those copies sit around in your closet (or your unlimited digital closet) make the record free and try to use it to gain interest in your next recording. Accepting that your record has lost value can be a tough thing, but realizing that it can still have value in spreading the word about your music can be a empowering thing that can help your next record gain even more value.
As we all know deploying your street team is one of the most important parts of successful promotion for your record. Thankfully, ` has developed a great set of tools to help manage your street team and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to. Check out their service and see what they can do for you.
In a very smart move the band Four Year Strong have come up with a clever and unique way to spread the word about their new record. The band is known for their unique artwork and have decided to use this to their advantage by making a site that allows fans to upload a picture of themselves to their site and make Blingee-type art from the images used by the band. This will no doubt lead to lots of fans sharing the site and using this as their pictures on social networks. While you build these Blingees you hear a stream of the album in order to spread the word about their new music a bit more. Clever, clever, clever. Go Four Year Strong Yourself here.
