Making The Chorus Bigger: Pump Up The Volume

In our new series Making The Chorus Bigger we will examine numerous
ways to get your chorus to get to the size you want it to be. We will
examine the many tricks that can be utilized to make this happen.

One of the tricks that every pro mixing engineer uses when kicking in a chorus, is to turn the whole thing up. On most pro mixing formats whether it is a Pro Tools system or a SSL console, the use of a VCA group that bumps up the instruments in a chorus is employed often. This VCA group will move these instruments levels up a db or even half a db to give the chorus a little extra kick. You can also do this trick in the reverse order (just like we discussed below) and lower the verse as a whole.
