The first thing we need to do is identify a group that is at about the same level as yours (a little bit bigger but not too big also works) and has fans that would enjoy your music. It would help even more if they were lived near you. As well it doesn’t have to be just one group either you can do as many as you would like. The next thing we need to do is to add all of these similar groups into your Google Alerts and send them to your Google Reader. After that do the same in BackType.
This will show you a wide variety of things including:
- Blogs/Magazines that have written about these groups that would potentially write about you.
- Shows that these bands are playing where you can track down the promoter and talk to.
- Fans who are writing about listening to these bands that you can send your music to and add to your social netoworks.
Everyday you will probably only have a couple of alerts (at most) which makes this easy to do. Simply dedicate yourself to doing this everyday and taking a few minutes to grow your fanbase and music in a smart way that makes it easy to find people who would actually like your music.
