How Can We Help? 8/2/13

Wanna get your DIY music promotions questions answered and promote your music?

Do you have questions about promoting your music or building a fanbase? Leave it in the comments and we promise to get back to you or even write a post featuring you that answers your question. If we think your question would benefit our readers we’ll post a YouTube video of your song on top of a post that answers your question. No matter what, you will get an answer this week as long as you leave an email address (so we can let you know when we answer your question) and a YouTube URL for your video.

All we ask in return is that if we answer your question, please help us spread the word about our book, Get More Fans: The DIY Guide To The New Music Business.

On page 228 of Getmorefans it says that in week 11 the band release 30 seconds youtube clips of each song on the record but on page 242 it says you should never release 30 second preview clips?

Hey Giddeo, first off great catch. The week schedule was meant to be purely an example of what a calendar should look like not things that you actually should do, but I will admit that is confusing and I will definitely correct it for the next edition of the book. I stand by that previews aren’t good since people fall in love with the movement and feel in songs not just small parts. Thanks so much for the catch and the comment! Feel free to hit us with any other thoughts.

Cheers Jesse, Love the book btw, I read a lot of sales books but this one really stands out. Lots of really current useful information, I’ve recommended it to a few people

I have a how can we help question. I am a hip hop producer and I plan on putting out an instrumental album hopefully next year (depends on how long it takes me to record it, it’s my first time recording ever!). I work in marketing for a medium size venue so I’m pretty familiar with the advertising outlets I plan to use. Here’s my question. I was planning on promoting the album for 6 months and releasing 1 song per month to promote the album. And before the album comes out I was planning on releasing a 5 or 6 song EP for free. Now my question is should I just release the EP in it’s entirety at once or should I release 2 songs off the EP then release everything at once? Also I was planning on promoting this for approximately 2 months or so prior to me promoting my album? I guess I’m confused because as of right now I have no social media presence I have everything set up but I haven’t been posting anything on social media because I have no music to promote.
