Every once in a while I will be doing a vocal that should be a real smooth falsetto or something airy, and despite my low end roll off I am getting a huge proximity effect muddying up what should be a crystal clear airy vocal. In the above video I show you how to get this sound by changing your microphone technique. This is also a great way to get that upfront action movie voice-over sound you hear in tons of movie trailers. To hear how this sounded in the track head to Man Overboard’s Myspace and listen to the bridge of the song “Montrose”.
