Equal Vision Records Announces Name Your Own Price For New Release

In a move we see rarely come from any of the large indies, Equal Vision has decided to try out “The Radiohead Model” with one of their new acts This Time Next Year. While physical copies of the record came out in stores today, the label has decided to allow fans to name their own price using Bandcamp. While if you head to record stores and iTunes the record is available at regular prices having fans who may otherwise just steal the record have the ability to name its worth could prove to be an interesting move and strategy we don’t see to often from the large indies.

This strategy we normally see being used by more established bands or bands who have little to no following. What I think may make this an interesting experiment is that this band is somewhere in between. Building up a following on the esteemed underground punk label Run For Cover the band has a following and notoriety before stepping up to the larger distribution of EVR. We will try to get in touch with EVR in the future to hear the results of this experiment!
