Don’t Send Cold Emails… Pick A Metric And Get To Work

Mike Kaminsky has managed some huge groups like 3Oh3! and Meg & Dia, so when he talks on his blog about the music business—it’s smart to listen. In his latest post, Mike writes about what we have long said (in fact, our book that comes out very soon is all about this)— sending emails to managers and A&R is time wasted, when you should be building a fanbase. He offers some amazing advice to band’s looking to get ahead.

“I believe when a hard working band is doing something right, people will notice. Generally, my #1 piece of advice to a new band is: pick one metric, and focus on it. If your live show is amazing, sell a lot of tickets and let the promoters talk. If you have an interesting personality get your YouTube views up. Don’t try to do everything. Know your strengths.”
