Cutting Down The Cable Clutter: Keeping Cables Seperated

cables.jpgIn our new series, Cutting Down Cable Clutter, we will be telling you
the many ways to get the pain of Cable Clutter out of your life.

Here is a quick lesson you may have missed; If you have different cables running all over each other, you are destined for a world of hum, noise, clutter, and eyesores. Before we start organizing any cables you have. The first rule: do not run every cable you have, all together. Each set of cables should bun in their own groups. Let’s first identify the different groups of cables so we know what to run together:

  • Computer Cables/Firewire/USB/Audio Interface Cables (Such as the cables from your Pro Tools Interface)/MIDI Cables/Monitor Cables
  • Power/IEC Cables
  • Audio Cables/Speaker/Mic/Line/Guitar etc.
  • Word Clock

All of these cables should be separated as much as possible from one another. Next up we will start discussing how to organize them all.
