Back To Mono Part 4: Is it Really Stereo?

This is the second post in a series where we will be discussing how listening in Mono can help your mixes.Check out Part 1, 2 and 3.

I mix a lot of records and often times I will receive files, where every track, whether they were recorded in Mono or not, is given to me as a stereo track! Obviously this wastes valuable CPU resources and increases track counts. If that weren’t enough there are many Synths out there, that output a stereo file but really are giving you two of the same exact file. Before I get started mixing I like to sort out these things. I have posted a video above on how I go about sorting out whether a stereo track is TRUE stereo or just 2 mono tracks. Enjoy!
