A Compilation Of Interviews With Producer Just Blaze

justblaze.jpgDJ MSP, runs one of the most bad ass and informative blogs for Hip-Hop Producers. In this post he has compiled a few choice snippets from Producer Just Blaze. You may know JB from his productions of Jay-Z, T.I., and Janet Jackson. There’s some pretty cool stuff in here but the one contradiction I do have to laugh at is:

“I don’t really like it when people say, “we can fix that in mastering.”

By the time you get to the end of the article you get this choice quote:

“Whenever I mix records,” Blaze illustrates, “instead of just recording to half inch or DAT, we make stems. With stems, after the record is mixed, we take every sound in the mix and rerecord it back into Pro Tools with its mixed levels and effects. So at the end of the day, you get a mixed multitrack. If you are mastering from multitrack, and the bottom end is lost when you compress, for instance, you can go back in and manually correct it.”
