You would have to be a little clueless to the music industry these days if you didn't see how much getting remixed by another artist can help promote your music no matter what genre you are in. I for one often find some of my favorite new records when I hear a remix of a song and then check out the original only to find I like it better than the remix. Obviously this is a great way to get a buzz and help build name recognition even if someone isn't crazy about the remix another person does? But how does a no name act get remixed? Follow me to the jump and I will start to explain how easy it is.
Who?
There are thousands of people out there looking to do remixes and not enough source material. Just because you are a nobody doesn't mean nobody would like to do a remix of your track. The fact is if an artist like your hook and thinks they can do something with it many people won't care if you are big or small. Anyone in the remix game knows that many of today's biggest stars got started by remixing anyone and everyone.

Get It Together

The first thing we need to do if you are going to try to get your song remixed is to get the parts. Whether you recorded your song yourself or not you are going to need to get audio and MIDI files of the song together into one folder. If you went to a studio to do your record ask the producer for this. We will need all audio and MIDI files "consolidated to zero." What this means is there will no punch-in in the file every file will start and end in the same place. This makes it easy for other people to line it up in their DAW and get to work.

Now that we have those parts together we want to put a mix of the song as well as a text document in the file. In this text document include the address of your bands websites and email (in case whoever remixes it wants to link it). We also want to include the song name, album name, as well as the key and tempo of the song. This will make life easier for the remixer and increase your chances of them actually putting in the days of effort it will probably take them to do this.

Seed It
Once you have all of the material together we need to get it out to the world. The best way to do this is by seeding it through a Torrent site. This will enable people to be able get the files easily without having to pay high bandwidth fees or worry about the files going offline. To learn how to seed a torrent go here. We need to name the file right as well so that people who stumble upon it know what it is. Name it "Your Band "Your Song" Session Files For Remixes TAKE ME AND REMIX". Once it is seeded properly it is time to get the word out. In the next part of this series I will tell you how to get publicity and how to get people to start taking advantage of the ability to remix your track.
