As the music industry changes, old roles and definitions quickly change with it. For example, even a few years ago, a band manager meant something completely different than it does now. The question becomes, what is the role for a modern band manager? Naturally, today's band manager will be much more of an online marketing expert and an independent spirit who can view the band as a potential long-term investment instead of a shorted stock. One approach is to have different "managers" to take care of different things - one person to take care of internet marketing, one person with established relationships to help book shows, etc. It is much more likely that you'll find individuals with specific talents that can help your band rather than one fast-talking schiesty guy in a cheap suit hyping up your mix tape and on the side, siphoning your hard earned cash.
